Batman is Super at MMVI

ARC Gold Top Robin "Batman" Bater #64 was at it again on 27-5-17 at Wellgate's sixth annual Metal Mania, winning the National Championship in convincing style. Having scraped into the senis on a tie break Robin soon became Superman to cruise through the semis into the final, where no-one could get near him. Steve "Spike" Rixon #77 drove steadily and cleverly throughout the day to claim his best ever MM finish in second, just ahead of MSRA Chairman and biggest traveller of the day, Johno Walmsley #22 – a self-confessed lover of the distinctive post & wires Wellgate track. Yours truly #42 was 4th, just ahead of Westy #152 and Chris "The Rev" Isham #51. Marks Banham #546 & Bicknell #14 had dominated the heats before narrowly missing out in the semis, and even Westy only just made the final after a racelong scrap with Geoff "Yosser" Hughes #45 in semi 2. With a number of regulars unable to participate due to work commitments, the 24 car turnout was good, including visitors from ARC, Arena, MSRA, Southern Rebels, Three Counties & Wisbech all getting stuck in. Congratulations to Dave Whelan #320 & Michelle McLaughlin #9 on winning the white top awards, Luke Bicknell #666 who won both the junior & yellow top trophies, and the aforementioned Johno who was best blue. The Rob's Repairs Smart Car Award came down to 4 immaculately prepared cars, with brand new slotstox from Spike, Batman & Westy just pipped by the 228 machine of MSRA car builder Paul Taylor. The track was in tip top condition after a complete refurb by Ken and his team, Linda was awesome in the diner keeping us all fed and watered, and everyone who wanted to was able to leave after the GNs and before 3.00 pm for Mildo or Lynn. Personally I thought it was a grand day – thanks to everyone for mucking in and helping to run it. Ken reports that the meeting made a profit of £22, plus a £3.25 contribution from Claire's cards – so that's £25.25 for SUDEP. More to be raised on 3-6-17 at Raunds in A Talbot Tribute.

King Richard

Well done to Three Counties Gold Top Richard Sleeman on winning the "Best in Britain" title there on 6-5-17. With 32 racers in attendance it was never going to be easy, but Richard's conquests included reigning British Champion Mark West, one of 32 drivers contesting the crown, and previously undefeated at 3Cs. Not sure where Richard's going to find space for the Union Jack roof though …

Bomber Bows Out

We are very sad to learn that Bomber County Slotstox Club is no longer operating. Based in Boston the club regularly received rave reviews from visiting racers, but sadly failed to attract sufficient local interest. However, every cloud has a silver lining, and the great news is that Steady Steve's supersmooth oval was snapped up by Three Counties Slotstox, and they plan to have it up and running very soon! The BSA would like to say a big THANK YOU to Steve & Yvonne Whitelock for starting up the club – we hope to see you at the tracks from time to time.
