Veteran circuit and slotstox racer Jon Penn #306 drove masterfully all day on Saturday June 10th to win the Ipswich Open on one of the longest tracks in the Parmastox world, at the Anglian Racewall Club. After progressing comfortably through a series of heats and his semi-final, Jon's biggest challenge came in the Grand Final from this year's multi-winner Robin "Batman" Bater #64. Going into the last 2 races Robin was ahead, but Jon drove superbly to win them both and take the title by just 2 points, with reigning British Champion Mark West #152 a long way back in 3rd. Jon attributed his victory to a switch from cider to lager for his day's sustenance…. probably. Local racer "Havoc" #465 drove well all day too and while narrowly missing out on the semis, did win the Rob's Repairs "Top Trier" Trophy.
25 racers plus many members of Aaron Talbot's family gathered for the second running of a "A Talbot Tribute" in memory of Aaron, who so tragically died just over a year ago. The slotstox racing was fast & furious throughout, the raffle was brilliant, Sophie's brownies were superb, and the trophies created by Spike & Linda just magnificent. After 15 heats and 2 semi-finals, the top 6 contested the Grand Final on the newly named "Aaron Talbot Arena". The minor places were filled by Steve Rixon (3C), Steve Chaplin (ARC), Rob Porter (3C) and Chris Isham (Arena), with last year's winner Richard Sleeman (3C) the runner-up this time, and Aaron's Dad Steve producing an outstanding series of drives to claim an emotional and appropriate victory. Spike announced that the day alone had raised over £400 for the family's chosen charity SUDEP. HUGE THANKS to the Talbot family and all who contributed to such a wonderful day.
